A central concern of this profound document is the educational injustice of Yukon’s education system. In 1973, the Council for Yukon Indians presented the Federal government of Canada a list of grievances and a pathway to reconciliation in the landmark document Together Today for our Children Tomorrow.
Prior to Yukon devolution, the Government of Canada, through Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, governed most natural resources in the territory. Amendments to the federal Yukon Act in 2003 marked the final major step in Yukon’s devolution process. The Community Training Trust Society assists Yukon communities and First Nations fund training of employees. YWWOP fees currently represent a break-even situation, where tuition solely and entirely support any external instructor salaries and logistics, and most of the program’s costs. For those looking to join the industry, brush up their skills, or join the job market, or those who are simply looking for a new and exciting field to enter, YWWOP can open a range of employment doors. The water and wastewater industry is a rapidly changing and growing career area with a shortage of qualified workers to fill positions. This focus is reflected in the members of the YWWOP Steering Committee, which is comprised of a mix of operators, government and private business representatives. For the complete schedule of EOCP exam sessions, or to schedule an exam session in your community, please contact EOCP directly.
